Feeding Therapy

Our feeding treatment is based on exposure therapy and desensitization approach. Although picky eaters and food sensitivities may exist in isolation, many children with oral motor difficulties, apraxia, tongue thrust, autism spectrum disorders, and more present with co-morbid feeding challenges as well.  The goal of the approach is to increase the child’s comfort level with particular foods by exploring and learning about the taste, texture, smell, and consistency of food. It allows a child to interact with food in a playful, non-stressful way, beginning with the ability to tolerate the food in the room and in front of him/her; then moving on to touching, kissing, and eventually tasting and eating foods. These services are provided in both individual and group settings.
